~ Bernice MacDonald
Born into a family of musicians, Bernice has always been around professional
musicians as her parents met and played in The Northern Sinfonia Orchestra.
As well as singing jazz for her fathers trio, Bernice also sang with
The Swing Bridge Singers choir in Newcastle Upon Tyne and performed
on The Ant and Dec Christmas Show with Aled Jones.
Having spent two years in Bristol studying musical theatre at the
Bristol Academy Of Performing Arts, Bernice moved to Brighton to study
under Carleen Anderson at The Brighton Institute Of Mordern Music.
This move brought Bernice's love of songwriting to the forefront.
Being compared to Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro is quite something for a
young female singer/songwriter to live up to but Bernice has a very bright
future ahead of her. A four star R2 review of her album Garden,
and now accompanied by a six-strong live band, Bernice's sound combines
her own upbeat, poppy lyrics with a folk-tinged backing which works beautifully.
Having sang backing vocals with Ozzy and Kelly Osborne on the nationally televised
'Olympic Torch Concert' and a variety of other television and radio performances
showcasing her sound, Bernice is now aiming at a different market stating
"I absolutely love and am proud to be British but most of my musical influences
are American or Canadian and half my roots are in The Maritimes as my dad is
Canadian so it feels like the most natural step for me to take".
Jerry Lansdowne, artist and songwriter for Johnny Cash
"Bernice MacDonald is incredibly talented.
She has a wonderful treasure inside of her that keeps pouring out"
Candye Kane, recording artist for Ruf Records
"Bernice MacDonald's voice is like Joni Mitchell meets Judy Collins with a little Dusty Springfield thrown in for class.
A lovely feel good voice for a sunshiny day"
Kevin Nixon, Virgin V2 A&R director/Kula Shaker
"If you like Joni Mitchell or Laura Nyro then you will love Bernice.
She has a range and ability that is hard to compete with in the crowded female market but her west coast influences
set her apart"
